As of August 2025, the long-awaited repair work on St Illtyd’s tower has been completed and the scaffolding removed—restoring access to our much-missed outside tap in the process! Thanks to the generous support of the National Churches Trust (NCT), we’ve been able to carry out essential repairs to safeguard the future of our Grade II* listed church.
As with any building project of this nature, once work began, further issues were uncovered—including rotten timbers and damaged leadwork—that required careful attention. Our churchwardens have worked tirelessly to steer the process, navigating the complexities of the faculty system while ensuring the use of historically appropriate materials and traditional craftsmanship.
Photographs below show the scale of the work and the repairs that have now been completed. While the NCT grant has been invaluable, costs inevitably extend beyond available funding. Support from the Friends remains vital in helping us continue to preserve St Illtyd’s for generations to come.
We are grateful to The Diocese of Llandaff and NCT (National Churches trust) for the financial support towards this project.

Last but not least, the new louvres that were the initial reason for the works being undertaken.
